WE WILL REVIEW YOUR APPLICATION TOGETHER

Once we have made contact, we will explain the process to you and give you the opportunity to ask questions. We will go through a checklist of questions to see if you are suitable to proceed to the next step.

ATTEND THE REQUIRED APPOINTMENTS

The next step involves attending the following appointments. Please note you will not need to pay for any of these appointments.

Session 1

  • Fertility Specialist
The first consultation will be with one of the Specialists who are associated with Genea. A medical history is taken at this consultation.
  • Semen Analysis
An appointment is also required at Genea for a semen analysis and sperm freeze. You should abstain from ejaculation for 3 days prior to this appointment.
  • Blood Test
The Nurse Coordinator will collect blood for the identification of infectious diseases including HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C & Chlamydia.

Session 2

  • Counsellor
The fourth appointment is with the Genea Counsellor. This is an opportunity to discuss the implications of being a donor for you and your family and any potential children. The counsellor will raise issues to be considered regarding legal, emotional, physical, relationship and genetic aspects of donation. We believe it is important that everyone participating in a donor program has plenty of time to reach an informed decision. The consultation process is designed to give the donor time to gain information and feel comfortable with their decision.

Session 3

  • Genetic Counsellor – online
An appointment is required with the Genea Genetic Counsellor, to discuss your family’s medical history and arrange testing to check for any conditions that could be passed on to the potential child. The Genetic counsellor will organise a genetic screening test and provide you the results of the test.

After these initial appointments have been attended and you are approved you can then proceed to donate. Usually, 4 – 6 sperm samples are collected (around 1 week apart) in our private collection room.

A final blood test is required 3 months after the final sperm donation which can be attended at your local pathology collection centre.
